Amaysim have announced a change on their unlimited plans, reducing the expiry from 30 days to 28 days, and adding additional data allowances and unlimited international calls to 10 of the most popular countries.
The change will take place for renewals from 31 March 2016. New data allowances and pricing are as follows:
- UNLIMITED 1GB becomes UNLIMITED 1.5GB – $24.90
- UNLIMITED 2GB becomes UNLIMITED 3GB – $29.90
- UNLIMITED 5GB becomes UNLIMITED 7GB – $39.90
- UNLIMITED 5GB Plus becomes UNLIMITED 7GB Plus – $44.90
- UNLIMITED 8GB becomes UNLIMITED 9GB – $49.90
Previously, only selected Unlimited plans received international calls. With this change, all Unlimited plan customers will also get unlimited standard calls to Amaysim’s top 10 countries: China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and the United Kingdom. You’ll also get unlimited standard texts to 32 countries.
People on the popular tech forum Whirlpool have been quick to point out that this change from 30 to 28 days is effectively an 8% increase in price and means you’ll be paying for 13 months in a year rather than 12.
Amaysim aren’t the first to switch to the shorter 28 day expiry – competitors Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, Optus and Telstra all have popular prepaid offers with a 28 day expiry. There are, however, some providers who remain with 30 day expiry periods including Lycamobile, Kogan Mobile, Aldi Mobile and Woolworths Mobile.
What do you think about this change? Will you be reviewing your options and possibly moving to a new provider – or do you welcome the extra inclusions?
